About Academy

ABOUT ACADEMY SOCCER AT RSL-FL

The purpose of facilitating the Academy format is to focus on player development, with no emphasis on results or scores. This is in agreement with the direction from FYSA and US SOCCER.

We have designed Academy Soccer at RSL-FL for our experienced athletes in natural progression from our In-House Recreational Program.  Players from a compatible outside organization can also be part of Academy with DOC approval.  There are no try-outs, but rather, Academy Assessments that are held in May to guide players to the appropriate program for the Fall.

U9 & U10 Age Groups are formed for both Boys & Girls. During the 7-month regular season, all players in the same age group will train together one practice night.  When the weekend teams are formed from coaches’ coordination, the second training night will focus on that particular week’s teams and the upcoming match. As the level of competition varies, so will the teams.  Players are grouped so that the teams are balanced as equally as possible to the weekly competition. The focus of the games should not be the score, but rather for the pure enjoyment of the game and player development.

In comparison to In-House Programs, Academy requires more commitment and financial responsibility.  However, fees have greatly decreased and have become more affordable.

With the player development focus, RSL-FL Academy prepares players and transitions age groups to enter into the Competitive Program starting at U11.  Please refer to the Competitive Soccer online info for more details.
